Specialty Lenses For Specific Needs
Standard lenses don’t work for everyone. At Village Optical, we offer specialty lenses for patients with more complicated prescriptions. These lenses can benefit patients with irregularly shaped corneas, keratoconus, or dry eye disease.

Taking a Closer Look at Your Eyes
Patients who have difficulties with standard contact lenses may benefit from a corneal topography test. This test creates a 3D image of the surface of your cornea.
Normally used to detect eye conditions like keratoconus, corneal topography is also helpful in fitting more complicated prescriptions for contact lenses!

Orthokeratology (Ortho-k) Contact Lenses
Ortho-K lenses are specially designed contact lenses that temporarily reshape your cornea to improve vision. They are mainly used to correct nearsightedness (myopia). Generally, Ortho-k lenses are worn overnight to help reshape the surface of the eye as you sleep.
Reshaping helps light focus on the retina correctly, providing clear vision during the next day without glasses or contact lenses. These visual improvements are temporary, but can be maintained with continued use of the lenses.
Ortho-K contact lenses have worked to manage myopia progression in children as young as 6 years old.
Scleral Contact Lenses
Scleral contact lenses are gas permeable lenses designed to dome over your cornea’s surface and rest on the sclera (the white of the eye). Scleral lenses can often help patients with specialized prescriptions, like irregularly shaped corneas or keratoconus.
Patients with dry eye disease also benefit from scleral contact lenses, as the space between the cornea and the back surface of the scleral lens acts as a fluid reservoir. This fluid reservoir creates comfort for those not usually able to wear contact lenses.
